1. Clear Existing Materials
The first step involves the removal of any existing materials, whether it's soil, weeds, or any substances above ground. This phase includes rough grading the area and exposing everything beneath the surface, including electrical wiring, irrigation systems, and pipes, to establish a solid sub-base for the project.
2. Cap Sprinklers
During this phase, we also cap any existing sprinklers that won't be in use. It's essential to cap the sprinklers at the pipe level rather than at the rising level to prevent potential leaks between them.
3. Modify Sprinklers, Irrigation, or Drainage
If necessary, we will relocate sprinklers, modify existing irrigation lines, and add any required drainage. Any unused sprinklers will be backfilled and their locations marked to prevent depressions or low spots.
4. Secure Wiring and Electrical Components
When relocating wiring, electrical components, and sprinkler systems, we move them inward and away from hardscaped areas or the perimeter by six to eight inches. This precaution helps avoid accidental damage when securing the turf edge with nails. Once relocated, all wiring is placed on top of the subgrade surface and secured with U-nails.
5. Install Bender Board
The installation of bender board is a crucial step, as it creates a clean line of separation between the turf area and the surrounding plants or beds. This ensures a well-defined and aesthetically pleasing transition between these elements.
