Excitement is in the air as Tujunga Little League's young players are finally set to "get their turf back" and resume playing baseball! After enduring weeks without a safe field due to the theft of their artificial grass in November, the league's tee-ball field will soon be transformed. The replacement turf is scheduled for installation on December 2nd and 3rd, allowing the children to return to the game they love.
The re-opening will be a momentous occasion, highlighted by the presence of Los Angeles Dodgers player Dee Gordon, who will be there to throw the first pitch and celebrate this significant milestone with the community.
The Backstory
On November 12, it was reported that thieves had stolen the artificial turf from the Tujunga Little League’s tee-ball field, which was designed for players aged four to six. In the absence of their playing surface, the young athletes were forced to practice on gravel—a dangerous alternative that affects how the ball bounces and complicates gameplay.
The theft left the league facing a significant setback, as the stolen turf was valued between $2,000 and $3,000, a sum that the non-profit organization simply couldn’t afford to replace. With no surveillance cameras in the area, hopes of recovering the stolen turf or identifying the culprits were dim.
A Community Response
Fortunately, help arrived in the form of Artificial Grass AGS, a California-based company committed to supporting local communities. The owners, Dillon Georgian and Bob DeLozier, felt compelled to step in and remedy the situation. “This is such a sad story,” said Georgian. “God has put it in our hearts to help these kids. My team and I are so excited to assist these young athletes.”
AGS is donating over 4,000 square feet of high-quality artificial turf, along with the installation services and one year of maintenance and disinfecting, courtesy of their partner, Sports Turf Rejuvenation and Restoration. This generous contribution ensures that the young players will have a safe and beautiful field to play on, bringing their baseball dreams back to life.
Upcoming Celebration
The grand opening of the new field will take place on December 3rd at noon, providing a perfect opportunity for the community to gather and celebrate this uplifting story. The young players will return to their “field of dreams,” now better than ever, thanks to the incredible generosity of Artificial Grass AGS and their commitment to community support.
