The young baseball players of Tujunga Little League will have to wait a little longer to see their field restored to its former glory. Originally scheduled to receive replacement artificial turf after their previous installation was stolen, the installation has been postponed due to an incoming storm. The installation, now set to begin on December 9th, will be followed by a grand re-opening ceremony on December 10th, featuring a representative from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In an official press release, the organization expressed their disappointment regarding the delay:
"A rainy forecast has delayed the installation of replacement artificial grass at the Tujunga Little League field. This is disappointing news for both the Artificial Grass AGS staff and the eager tee-ball players looking forward to getting back on the field. The installation has been rescheduled, with work beginning on the 9th and the grand re-opening event taking place on Wednesday, December 10th at 3:00 p.m."
The Tujunga Little League suffered a significant setback when artificial turf was stolen from their field on November 8th. The synthetic turf had been specifically installed for the league’s youngest players, transforming a previously rocky and unusable area into a safe and inviting baseball field. With the turf gone, the young athletes found themselves without a suitable place to play.
"It's unfortunate that the rainy weather has caused this delay," said Dillon Georgian, co-owner of Artificial Grass AGS. "We were hoping to have the turf installed as quickly as possible for the kids."
Replacing the stolen turf presents a challenge for the league, as the cost of the turf alone amounts to the revenue generated from player registrations for an entire season.
When Artificial Grass AGS learned of the theft, they stepped up to assist. The company is donating recycled artificial turf sourced from a local college baseball field and will also handle the installation. Additionally, AGS’s trade partner is generously providing one year of disinfection and maintenance services at no cost.
